So let's start with a discussion about venomous snake bites. For example, let's assume that we have a Copperhead snake and it bites you on your leg

You will definitely want to get a picture of the snake so that you can tell an injury from a bite.

If this is a venomous type of snake bite, you should go to the nearest hospital immediately and have medical assistance. Since many people don't know how they should treat a venomous snake bite, having an experienced person at your side while you figure out what to do will be very helpful (Home remedy).

There's also a chance that the victim has antivenin on hand in which case he/she can inject the antivenin into their bloodstream by taking an antivenin shot.

The Copperhead is part of the "snake family".

Do Snake Proof Boots Work?

It is difficult to quantify how many people have been bitten by snakes, but a study in Australia found that between 2000 and 2013, there were 15,581 snake bites reported in Australia. Of these bites, 1198 were fatal.

So if we cannot estimate how pervasive the snake problem is for humans on earth; what about our pets? What are some of the dangers they face from snakes? And how do we protect them? we will explore what do Snake Proof Boots Work.

Snake Proof Boots

Snake proof boots for horses and dogs are typically made of rubber or PVC (vinyl). They have a compartment in the sole that allows for the passage of blood to prevent heating, but not air circulation. That is because if it were to get too cold, or if there was a puncture (like with a snake bite), your body would cool down faster than the air inside. So, you could be in danger of hypothermia. There are some boot models that have a foam layer near the bottom to provide cushioning and insulation.

Please also note that snake proof boots are not made for humans; they only protect animals from snakes. And they are not meant to prevent bites from other dangerous animals like dogs and horses.

For example, I personally own a pair of dog boots that I bought from Amazon.com in 2012 at around $25-$30. They are made by "Thunderwear Boots", a company based out of Australia. According to their website, since 1982 Thunderwear has been designing and producing "All weather", "High impact protection" dog boots for Australia's leading dog clubs and promoters.

In the past, these boots are typically used to protect sheep from foxes and dogs from snakes. According to their website:

The sheepdog boot has been developed as a high quality, all weather dog boot that will offer your dog all weather protection for a number of years. The sheepdog boot is made from genuine felt and has an outer sole made of rubber. The shape of the boot allows for air circulation and it is adjustable at the heel and around the ankle area to enable you to find the perfect fit for your dog. The sheepdog boot is manufactured by Thunderwear. Thunderwear Boots are designed and produced in Australia to ensure quality and reliability on all fronts. Thunderwear Boots are recommended by leading dog trainers, breeders and handlers. The sheepdog boot is great value for money.

In my experience, they are effective at protecting my dog from anthrax (poisonous snake in Texas) bites. I used to own a medium sized black lab/German Shepard mix named Anna who was bitten by an Anthrax when she was about 8 months old. She was injected with the antivenom and survived. The vet told me that the boots could not have prevented her from being bitten, but they would have helped prevent the toxin from spreading all over her body very quickly. If she did not wear the boot, she might not have made it through the night.
